A KAS Officer (Karnataka Administrative Service Officer) is responsible for implementing government policies, managing public administration and supporting the development of Karnataka.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement state government schemes and policies.
- Maintain law and order within the assigned area.
- Manage revenue and land administration.
- Supervise government departments and public services.
- Handle public complaints and resolve administrative issues.
- Coordinate disaster-management and relief activities.
- Monitor development projects and welfare programmes.
- Conduct elections and support other government duties.
- Ensure transparency and proper use of public funds.
KAS officers may serve in positions such as Assistant Commissioner, Tahsildar, Deputy Superintendent, Commercial Tax Officer and other administrative roles, depending on the service and posting.
KAS Officer Eligibility
- Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in any discipline.
- Minimum Age: 21 years.
- Maximum Age:
- General Category: 38 years
- Category 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B: 41 years
- SC, ST and Category-1: 43 years
- Nationality: Candidate must be an Indian citizen.
- Kannada Knowledge: Knowledge of the Kannada language is required.
- Final-Year Students: They may apply if they obtain the required qualification before the prescribed verification date.

KAS Examination Pattern and Syllabus
Stage 1: Preliminary Examination
The Preliminary Examination contains two objective-type papers.
Paper I – General Studies
- Current events of national and international importance

- Total: 400 marks
- Negative marking applies to incorrect answers.
Stage 2: Main Examination
The Main Examination is descriptive.
