1. Nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 Campaign Launched
Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat launched the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 campaign in New Delhi on 6 August 2026.
The campaign will be observed across India from 9 to 17 August 2026. It encourages citizens to hoist the National Flag at their homes and participate in programmes promoting patriotism, national unity and respect for the Tricolour.
The 2026 campaign marks five years of Har Ghar Tiranga as a people’s movement. This edition has been dedicated to the celebration of 150 years of India’s National Song, Vande Mataram.
A new international initiative called SURYAPATH TIRANGA was also announced. It seeks to connect Indian missions and communities across the world through activities centred on the National Flag.
Partition Horrors Remembrance Day will be observed across India on 14 August as part of the campaign period.

2. National Flag of India Quiz Receives Strong Public Participation
The Government organised the National Flag of India Quiz under the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign to increase awareness about the history and significance of the Indian National Flag.
The online quiz contains 20 multiple-choice questions, which participants must answer within 10 minutes. It is available in several Indian languages with the support of the government’s AI-based language platform, Bhashini.

Participants who successfully complete the quiz receive an electronic certificate of participation. The quiz will remain available until 15 August 2026 through the MY Bharat platform.

3. Four Commemorative Stamps Released on Indian Handloom Weaves
President Droupadi Murmu released four commemorative postage stamps celebrating Indian handloom weaving traditions on 7 August 2026.
The stamps were released during the 12th National Handloom Day programme at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre in New Delhi.
The President also released a publication titled “Earth. Root. Thread – Aal Dyed Handloom Textiles of Central India.” The publication documents traditional Aal-dyed textiles and highlights the diversity of India’s handloom heritage.
An exhibition of award-winning handloom products was organised during the programme. Visitors also witnessed live demonstrations of traditional Kani weaving and wall-hanging weaving.

4. India Standardises Names of 27 Places and Features in Arunachal Pradesh
The Government of India, in consultation with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, standardised the names of 27 places and geographical features in the state on 7 August 2026.

The 11th BRICS Culture Ministers’ Meeting concluded in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, on 8 August 2026 with the adoption of the Bhopal Declaration.

6. India Announces Voluntary Artist Registry for BRICS Countries
During the 11th BRICS Culture Ministers’ Meeting, India announced a pilot initiative to develop a Voluntary Artist Registry.

8. India Commemorates the Quit India Movement
India paid tribute to the participants of the Quit India Movement on 9 August 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered the courage and sacrifice of the freedom fighters who participated in the historic movement.
The Quit India Resolution was passed at the Bombay session of the All India Congress Committee on 8 August 1942. The mass movement began on 9 August 1942.
Mahatma Gandhi gave the famous call “Do or Die” while launching the movement. It became one of the most significant mass movements against British colonial rule.

9. Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign Launched in Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan launched the Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 9 August 2026.
The launch formed part of the nationwide campaign encouraging people to hoist the National Flag at their homes and participate in Independence Day celebrations.
During his visit, the Vice-President also paid tribute to freedom fighters at the Cellular Jail in Port Blair. The Cellular Jail is closely associated with India’s freedom struggle because numerous Indian revolutionaries were imprisoned there during British rule.

10. Indian Culture Portal Version 2.0 Strengthens Digital Access to Heritage
On 10 August 2026, the Ministry of Culture provided details about the upgraded Indian Culture Portal Version 2.0, which was launched in March 2026.
The portal brings together digitised resources from museums, libraries, archives, monuments and cultural institutions on one platform.

11. Government Releases Details of PM Mementos E-Auctions
On 10 August 2026, the Ministry of Culture released information about the money received through e-auctions of mementos and gifts presented to the Prime Minister.
The National Gallery of Modern Art, or NGMA, has organised seven auction editions. According to the government figures, the editions collectively generated approximately ₹52.19 crore.

12. Government Promotes Classical Dance in School Education
The Government announced that Indian classical dances are being promoted in school education in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020.
The Centre for Cultural Resources and Training conducts training programmes for teachers and students of government and government-aided schools. These programmes incorporate Indian classical and folk-dance traditions.
The Sangeet Natak Akademi also organises the Kala Dharohar series, which includes lectures, performances and workshops for schoolchildren.
The Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Scheme provides specialised cultural training to talented children between 10 and 14 years of age.

13. Global Engagement Scheme Supports India’s Cultural Diplomacy
On 10 August 2026, the Ministry of Culture provided information about India’s approach to international cultural cooperation.
India promotes its cultural relations with other countries through the Global Engagement Scheme, an umbrella programme supporting cultural exchanges, heritage conservation, documentation, capacity-building and cooperation with international organisations.
The Global Engagement Scheme has four components:
India currently has valid Cultural Exchange Programmes with 98 countries. These programmes facilitate cooperation in culture, museums, heritage and performing arts.

14. Sangeet Natak Akademi Honours Announced for 115 Artists

15. Har Ghar Tiranga Bike Rally Flagged Off in New Delhi
Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan flagged off the Har Ghar Tiranga Bike Rally on 12 August 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Members of Parliament, Union ministers and other public representatives participated in the rally. It proceeded from Bharat Mandapam to Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium.
The event commemorated the 150th anniversary of the National Song, Vande Mataram, and promoted national pride, unity and citizen participation.

16. Former President Ram Nath Kovind’s Autobiography Released
Prime Minister Narendra Modi released former President Ram Nath Kovind’s autobiography on 12 August 2026 at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
The book is titled “Triumph of the Indian Republic: My Life, My Struggles.”
The autobiography documents Kovind’s childhood, personal struggles, public service and journey to the highest constitutional office in India. It also records important experiences connected with Indian society and democracy.

An exhibition titled “Swaraj: Revisualising India’s Political History” opened at the Visual Arts Gallery of the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi on 12 August 2026.

18. France Organises 36th Night of the Stars
France organised the 36th edition of Night of the Stars, known in French as Nuits des Étoiles, from 7 to 9 August 2026.
