Renowned Ayurveda physician and researcher Vaidya Balendu Prakash passed away following a cardiac arrest on 7 August 2026. He was 67.
He was recognised for promoting evidence-based Ayurveda and advancing Rasa Shastra, a traditional branch of Ayurvedic medicine. He undertook research into treatments for chronic and complex illnesses and published his findings internationally.
Balendu Prakash encouraged farmers in Uttarakhand to cultivate medicinal plants. He also held patents and served as an honorary physician to former President K. R. Narayanan.
He founded Padaav, a speciality Ayurvedic treatment centre in Dehradun.

Eminent nuclear scientist, writer, science communicator and social thinker M. P. Parameswaran passed away in Thrissur, Kerala, on 11 August 2026. He was 91.
Parameswaran earned an engineering degree from the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, in 1956. He subsequently completed a doctorate in nuclear engineering at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute in 1965.
He worked at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and later became one of Kerala’s leading advocates of popular science and decentralised development. He was closely associated with the Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad.
Parameswaran wrote several popular-science books and hundreds of articles. He was also known for his controversial Fourth World theory.
While serving as Assistant Director of the Kerala Institute of Languages, he contributed to designing the Malayalam keyboard layout for typewriters.

Veteran Telugu actor, writer, playwright and director Yellapragada Sowbhagya Krishneswara Rao passed away in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, on 11 August 2026.
Krishneswara Rao began performing during his school years and subsequently appeared in more than 1,500 stage plays. He wrote and directed numerous theatrical productions and contributed stories, lyrics and dialogues to Telugu films.
He received the Nandi Special Jury Award for portraying a beggar in the film “Chandamama Kathalu.”

Italian sprinter and Olympic champion Livio Berruti passed away on 9 August 2026. He was 87.
Berruti won the gold medal in the men’s 200 metres at the 1960 Rome Olympic Games. He became the first Italian athlete to win an Olympic title in this event.
During the Olympic semifinal, Berruti equalled the then-world record of 20.5 seconds. He was also remembered for competing in sunglasses and for his distinctive running style.

American actor and politician Ben Jones passed away from a heart attack on 9 August 2026. He was 84.
Jones was best known for playing Cooter Davenport in the American television series “The Dukes of Hazzard.”
He later entered politics and represented Georgia in the United States House of Representatives from 1989 to 1993.
Jones and his wife established Cooter’s Place, a museum and entertainment venue dedicated to “The Dukes of Hazzard.” They also organised DukesFest, a fan event connected with the television series.

8. Former Bank of Mexico Governor Miguel Mancera Passes Away
Mexican economist and former central-bank governor Miguel Mancera Aguayo passed away on 10 August 2026. He was 93.
Mancera served as Director-General of the Bank of Mexico from 1982 to 1994. When the central bank received constitutional autonomy in 1994, he became its first governor and continued in office until 1998.
He played an important role in Mexico’s monetary-policy reforms, inflation-control measures and the establishment of an autonomous central bank.

Senior Laotian politician Xaysomphone Phomvihane passed away on 8 August 2026 at the age of 69.
He served as President of the National Assembly of Laos from 2021. He had earlier served as the country’s finance minister from 1995 to 1998.
He was a prominent member of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and held several senior governmental and legislative positions during his political career.

Prominent Czech novelist Vladimír Páral passed away on 10 August 2026. He was 94.
Páral was known for novels examining industrial life, social conditions, personal relationships and the psychological effects of modern society.

His scholarly work helped bring Indian and Asian film traditions into international academic discussions. He wrote and edited numerous books examining cinema, culture, communication and literary theory.
