1. Padma Shri Ayurveda Physician Vaidya Balendu Prakash Passes Away

Renowned Ayurveda physician and researcher Vaidya Balendu Prakash passed away following a cardiac arrest on 7 August 2026. He was 67.

He was recognised for promoting evidence-based Ayurveda and advancing Rasa Shastra, a traditional branch of Ayurvedic medicine. He undertook research into treatments for chronic and complex illnesses and published his findings internationally.

Balendu Prakash encouraged farmers in Uttarakhand to cultivate medicinal plants. He also held patents and served as an honorary physician to former President K. R. Narayanan.

He founded Padaav, a speciality Ayurvedic treatment centre in Dehradun.

2. Nuclear Scientist M. P. Parameswaran Passes Away

Eminent nuclear scientist, writer, science communicator and social thinker M. P. Parameswaran passed away in Thrissur, Kerala, on 11 August 2026. He was 91.

Parameswaran earned an engineering degree from the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, in 1956. He subsequently completed a doctorate in nuclear engineering at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute in 1965.

He worked at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and later became one of Kerala’s leading advocates of popular science and decentralised development. He was closely associated with the Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad.

Parameswaran wrote several popular-science books and hundreds of articles. He was also known for his controversial Fourth World theory.

While serving as Assistant Director of the Kerala Institute of Languages, he contributed to designing the Malayalam keyboard layout for typewriters.

Krishneswara Rao began performing during his school years and subsequently appeared in more than 1,500 stage plays. He wrote and directed numerous theatrical productions and contributed stories, lyrics and dialogues to Telugu films.

He received the Nandi Special Jury Award for portraying a beggar in the film “Chandamama Kathalu.”
