The Gujarat Government approved ₹20 crore for FY 2026–27 to establish four Centres of Excellence (CoEs) for Natural Farming.
The centres will be established in Navsari, Morbi, Bhavnagar and Chhota Udepur districts. The Gujarat Prakrutik Krishi Vikas Board will implement the initiative.
Each centre will be able to train around 100 farmers at a time and will provide support in natural-farming techniques, soil and quality testing, agricultural technology, value addition and post-harvest processing. Demonstrations will include five-layer farming, mixed cropping and intercropping practices.

The Rajasthan Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, approved the draft Rajasthan Uniform Civil Code Bill, 2026 ahead of the Assembly's Monsoon Session.
The proposed legislation covers important personal-law matters including marriage, divorce, inheritance and live-in relationships.
The decision is significant from the perspective of state polity, governance and constitutional current affairs.

The Rajasthan Cabinet also approved the draft Rajasthan Trees (Protection) Bill, 2026.

The Rajasthan Government decided to expand eligibility for compassionate appointments by including daughters-in-law of deceased government employees under specified provisions.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated a Centre of Excellence for Eri Silk Weaving on 14 August 2026 at the Integrated Textile Tourism Complex, Ri Sai, Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi district.
The centre aims to preserve and promote Meghalaya's traditional Eri weaving techniques, provide skill development, encourage innovation and ensure traditional knowledge is passed to future generations.
Eri silk is locally associated with Ryndia and is an important part of Meghalaya's indigenous textile heritage.

The Meghalaya Government announced plans to introduce a dedicated paper on Meghalaya's history, culture, society and economy in the state's Civil Service Competitive Examination.
The decision aims to ensure that candidates entering the state's administrative services possess greater knowledge of Meghalaya's local history, culture and socio-economic conditions.
The Karnataka Cabinet approved the Sandhya Kiran Scheme, a contributory cashless healthcare programme for state pensioners below 70 years of age and their eligible family members.
The scheme functions through the Ayushman Bharat–Arogya Karnataka framework.
Around 4.93 lakh beneficiaries, including approximately 3.11 lakh pensioners and their dependants, are expected to benefit.
Eligible families will receive cashless healthcare coverage of up to ₹5 lakh annually for secondary, tertiary and emergency treatments at empanelled hospitals.
The Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust will manage enrolment, empanelment, cashless treatment and claims.

Karnataka Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar announced the Vidyarthi Sahayahasta Scheme during Independence Day celebrations on 15 August 2026.
Under the initiative, eligible students who studied from Class I to Class X in rural government schools will receive 7.5% reservation within the existing 15% rural reservation for admission to professional programmes, including medical and engineering courses.
The scheme aims to improve access to professional higher education for students from rural government schools.

The measures are aimed at making school and college students more competitive in AI, coding and emerging technologies.
On 16 August 2026, the Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) was formally launched in West Bengal.
The programme provides eligible families health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary hospitalisation.
Around 2,000 government and private hospitals were expected to participate in the implementation network.
The state also introduced the Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana for families outside the AB-PMJAY beneficiary framework, targeting approximately 80 lakh families.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth approximately ₹3,500 crore in Jaipur on 18 August 2026.
The projects cover healthcare, sewerage, sanitation, waste management, traffic management and other urban infrastructure.
Major components included new medical infrastructure, urban sanitation facilities and projects under AMRUT 2.0.
As part of the same development programme, Rajasthan flagged off 71 electric buses under PM e-Bus Sewa.
Of these, 24 buses for Jaipur and Bhilwara were physically flagged off, while 47 buses for Alwar, Ajmer, Jodhpur, Kota and Udaipur were launched virtually.

During the same programme, approximately ₹154 crore was transferred directly to 1,32,421 workers and their dependants under various Rajasthan Labour Department welfare schemes.
This was carried out through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The Rajasthan development package included approximately ₹109 crore for 506 urban toilets, of which around 395 are pink toilets intended primarily for women.
The package also included approximately ₹625 crore for 76 AMRUT 2.0 waste-management projects and substantial sewerage investment in Jaipur.
The Central Zoo Authority approved a major project in Gujarat to establish a desert-themed drive-through night safari and zoological park at Juna Deesa in Banaskantha district.
The project is planned over approximately 103 hectares and is estimated to cost around ₹542.14 crore.
It is expected to accommodate about 2,700 animals and birds belonging to around 83 species.
The project is being promoted as a major desert-wildlife tourism and conservation initiative.

The International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) selected four Indian irrigation structures for World Heritage Irrigation Structure recognition in 2026.
These included:

Ashti Medium Project – Maharashtra
Chhapawara Dam – Rajasthan
Pechiparai Dam – Tamil Nadu.
The 140-year-old Parichha Weir in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, serves as the headworks of the Betwa Canal System and supports irrigation in both Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
The Union Cabinet approved railway and highway infrastructure projects worth approximately ₹13,041 crore, affecting connectivity across five states.
The projects are expected to improve passenger and freight movement, logistics efficiency and regional connectivity.
Because these are centrally approved projects, they also belong under National Current Affairs, but their state-wise infrastructure impact makes them relevant for State Current Affairs revision.
The Union Cabinet approved establishment of a permanent bench of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
The move is aimed at improving access to justice for residents of Ladakh by reducing dependence on distant judicial centres.

Ahmedabad, Gujarat, was announced as host of the 2nd Commonwealth Cue Sports Championships, scheduled for October 2026 at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex.
Athletes from around 45 countries are expected to compete across five cue-sport disciplines and ten medal events.
This is primarily a Sports Current Affairs item but is also an important Gujarat state-linked development.
The Himachal Pradesh Forest Department signed a five-year MoU with the Bharti Institute of Public Policy, Indian School of Business (ISB-BIPP).
The partnership aims to unlock an estimated ₹22,600 crore of untapped forest and pastoral economic potential using science, technology and data-driven governance.
The estimated resource potential includes:
Amla – ₹8,700 crore
Pine needles – ₹5,500 crore
Wild mangoes – ₹4,800 crore
Sal seeds – ₹2,400 crore
Rhododendron flowers – ₹1,200 crore.
The initiative covers forest enterprises, a forest-intelligence platform, grazing and pastoral databases, training and capacity building.
The Chhattisgarh Government signed two MoUs with:
Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N)
and
National Logistics Data Services Limited (NLDSL).
The agreements aim to expand geospatial technology, GIS-based planning, logistics data and analytics under the PM GatiShakti framework.
More than 35 state departments, over 600 additional data layers, multiple planning tools and dozens of use cases have been integrated into the state's digital planning ecosystem.
Chhattisgarh was also recognised as a high performer among landlocked states in LEADS 2025.
The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a USD 230 million loan agreement to modernise and expand water-supply and sanitation infrastructure across Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
A key feature of the project is the development of a comprehensive ring-main water-supply system, making Chennai the first Indian city to implement such a city-wide system.

The Asian Development Bank and Karnataka Government signed a loan agreement worth approximately ₹1,750 crore for upgrading government schools.
The four-year project is scheduled to continue until 2029–30.
It aims to improve school infrastructure and learning facilities and develop campuses offering education from LKG to Class XII, with capacity for at least 1,200 students per campus.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated seven infrastructure projects worth ₹427.80 crore at Paradip Port in Odisha.
Projects include navigation, connectivity, safety, sustainability and community infrastructure.
Three additional mechanisation projects involving investment of approximately ₹1,580.36 crore were also taken forward through concession agreements.
Major projects include the Capital Dredging Project, Atharbanki Second New Bridge, PNG supply infrastructure and an advanced Vessel Traffic Management System.
The Government of Maharashtra signed an MoU with the German state of Hesse/Hessen to strengthen cooperation in investment, industry, innovation, employment and skill development.
The agreement was signed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Hesse Minister-President Boris Rhein in Mumbai.
A Joint Working Group is expected to establish an implementation framework and facilitate investment and business exchanges.
Priority sectors include pharmaceuticals, healthcare, engineering, automobiles, financial services and logistics.
