Nevertheless, the controversy intensified discussion about the need for strong human expert verification whenever AI tools are used in high-stakes educational assessments.
Former UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar argued that the National Testing Agency should be reformed rather than replaced.
He said an organisation handling examinations on NTA's scale requires stronger systems, coordination, transparency and accountability rather than complete institutional replacement.

Jagadesh Kumar emphasised the importance of ensuring better traceability at every stage of examination-material handling.
This would allow responsibility to be identified more clearly when errors or security failures occur and could strengthen confidence in national examinations.
The UGC-NET situation also led to uncertainty over the examination-result timeline, with results expected to be handled in two phases because of the retesting of affected subjects.
Candidates in unaffected subjects and those requiring retests therefore faced different result schedules.
On 20 August 2026, the Supreme Court of India raised concerns over the implementation of CBSE's three-language framework.
The Court asked the Central Government, CBSE and NCERT to examine the issue and streamline its implementation.

IIM Bangalore prepared to begin its first undergraduate programmes, marking a major expansion beyond its traditional postgraduate and doctoral management education.
Two four-year programmes were announced: BSc (Hons) in Data Sciences with a minor in Economics and BSc (Hons) in Economics with a minor in Data Sciences.
The first undergraduate intake attracted approximately 12,000 applications for just 80 seats.
